Impact & Testimonials

Impact

Through our programming, we see broad and deep impacts, from the individual students in the classroom to the thousands of people who take the student-built boats onto the water at Bartram’s Garden.

Students in our programs gain myriad personal skills, including transferable workforce skills, socio-emotional skills like teamwork and interpersonal communication, and an understanding of maritime history that allows them to connect their own cultural stories to the local waterways.

These skills have impacts in the classroom as well – not only are students better able to communicate with each other and work together, but they are also more proficient in concepts like fractions and other math skills, maritime history, environmental education, and the connections between art and culture.

Qualitative data from classroom teachers confirms that this program increases rapport among students, improving their capacity to work in teams and communicate. Parents also report that the program has helped their kids learned practical and socio-emotional skills that can help them obtain work in the future.
